"Gabriel" - which means "Strength of God" appears in the so-called infancy gospel as a messenger of the Good News of the Kingdom of God, which is already present in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, born of Mary. He is, therefore, the messenger of God!

It is Archangel Gabriel who is always called to announce great events. In the Old Testament he already shows his presence bringing good news from the Most High, explaining to Daniel the vision that this prophet had. Then he showed the people of Israel, when they were in exile, their favorable destiny.

In the New Testament, it is Gabriel who announces to Zechariah that Elizabeth, his wife, will bear him a son, who will be the prophet St. John the Baptist.

It was he too who appeared to Mary, in the humble house of Nazareth, to announce to her that she would be the Mother of the Saviour of the World.

It is, therefore, the herald of the dawn of a new era, a time of hope and salvation for all people. It is he who for the first time utters those words which all generations will repeat to greet and praise the Virgin of Nazareth: "Hail, full of grace. The Lord is with you."
