When the angel Lucifer rebelled against his Creator, desiring that God would establish with him the covenant he had established with man by becoming man, pretending to be like the Most High, between the angry angel and the throne of the Almighty stood "one of the chief princes" (Dan 10:3). A seraphim incomparably more splendid and strong, who in the Heavens cried out: "Who like God?" And millions of celestial spirits repeated the same cry of fidelity.

"Who like God?" - This sign of fidelity, which in Hebrew is called Mi-ka-el, became the name of that seraphim who by his unique charity was the first to rise up in defense of the offended Divine Majesty.

Saint Michael the Archangel, who was thus the first worshipper of the Incarnate Word, is the defender and protector of the Holy Church and the People of God in times of trouble. He is also the one who accompanies the souls of the dead to Heaven.
